Rock Songs Inspired Horror Stories: Courtney Skelton's Inspired
What happens when rock songs inspire horror stories filled with psychological suspense, revenge, redemption, and supernatural mysteries? Author Courtney Skelton joins Booked On Rock to discuss Inspired, his collection of five dark short stories based on music by Reign of Z, Bullet to the Heart, Eden on Fire, and The Almas. Each song becomes the foundation for a different tale, from a woman fighting back against a violent attacker to a troubled murderer seeking forgiveness and a young woman confronting mysterious voices while being held captive.
In this episode, Skelton reveals how rock songs inspired horror stories, how the musicians reacted to his interpretations of their music, and how a song by The Almas helped him finish a story that originally came to him in a dream. He also discusses the influence of Stephen King and Clive Barker, the creative freedom of turning music into fiction, and the surprising connections between songwriting and storytelling.
